What Is It? It’s an experimental worship service which we are trying out at the Community Presbyterian Church of Ft. Laramie. It is a time of singing and fellowship. Groups or individual players of acoustic instruments come. So do singers and those who enjoy good gospel music in a bluegrass style and just want to listen. We open with prayer. We go around a circle of contributors, taking turns so that everyone who wishes to suggest a song will get a chance, and yet no one group or individual dominates the choices. If only you know the song, you may sing it, possibly by yourself. More likely, though, we’ll figure out how to join in and keep you company. If you want to use a music stand, you might want to put your name on one and bring it along, since the church won’t have enough for one for everybody. We stop for a few minutes in the middle for some refreshments and get to know each other better. It's also a time when those who wish to leave discretely may do so, although one may exit at any time. Then we have more music. We close with prayer. Sometimes everybody goes home. Sometimes someone says, "Hey, we didn't sing _ _ _ tonight. Let's try it!" and the music starts all over again for those hardy few who don't have somewhere they need to go. |
